FAQ
What is the Greenside Residents Association (GRA)?
The GRA is a non-profit residents association with the aim of representing the interests of the residents of Greenside, Johannesburg. The association is dependant on volunteers, sponsorship and fundraising to operate.
How can I submit complaints to the GRA?
The GRA is a key mechanism through which the interests of residents in Greenside can be harmonised. It sometimes happens that a dispute may arise between neighbours who worry about raising issues with one another. The GRA acts as a mediator in resolving such disputes. The GRA also investigates complaints relating to by-law infringements, urban management and similar fields. Should a complaint require law enforcement intervention, the GRA will put its findings of a complaint forward to the correct law enforcement agency involved.
You can send your complaints to the GRA online or via email, post or fax. There is also a prescribed complaints form that you can download from the Urban Management Sub Committee page. All you need to do is fill in this form and send it to compliance [at] lovegreenside [dot] org and the committee will take it from there. Click here for details and to view the form.
Do all residents have to join and pay an annual membership fee?
No. Membership is voluntary, but it is very important that you consider joining, because without a united community and a strong GRA it is likely that the quality of life in the suburb, and property values, will continue to be threatened by rising crime, a lack of City attention to maintenance and planning needs, as well as illegal business operations in our suburb. Also, annual membership is just R200 per household.
How will my membership fee be spent?
Annual membership fees are just R200 per household. Funds are spent on legitimate operating expenses of the GRA, including the website and communications and in addressing, on your behalf, the issues affecting the suburb. The Committee members are all volunteers and none derive any financial benefit from the GRA. Financial statements are made available to every member prior to the Annual General Meeting.
Who elects the Committee?
The members of the GRA (hopefully you!) elect the Committee annually at the Annual General Meeting.
Is there a relationship between the GRA and politicians, other elected officials and the municipality?
Not formally but the GRA committee have established lines of communication with Greenside's Councillor (Sharon Sabbagh) and relevant stakeholders from the Municipality, the Liquor Board, Parkview Police etc. These relationships are vital in order for us to effect our mandate.
How do I become a member of the GRA?
